Which “Lens”

Google LensThe Coronavirus has really caused some abrupt changes to our communities, states, country, and the world.  As a principal, my job has slowed down in many aspects.  The morning rush is gone.  There isn’t a need to get ready for school and fight for bathroom space with family members in the morning.  The business of school has slowed considerably.

However, I find that I’m very busy in new ways.  Zoom meetings with teachers, parents, and students have become an essential way of doing business and consume time like a ravenous dog.  By the way, I’m very proud of the monumental effort that our teachers put forth in essentially creating a new virtual school.  Learning in a virtual world has highlighted some skills that we need and tools to get it done.  One tool that I find to be very useful is Google Lens.  I’m sure there is an iOS version as well, but I don’t know how to access the iOS version to provide support to you.

During my time at home, I have had to copy and paste from a multitude of document types.  Google Lens does an excellent job of capturing the text and allows me to use that text in other documents, easily.  Yes, it works with PDFs as well.  Here is a short video on YouTube highlighting the features.

Do you have tech tools that are making life at home easier during school closures?  I know for sure that Google Lens is a tool that I’ll be using more and more.
